Growing up, weekends for me meant chasing the next skincare miracle with my mum and sister. We wandered from beauty shops to dermatologists trying everything we could to manage my sister’s acne. Some products worked briefly but the results always faded.
We eventually came across organic soaps – one in particular that worked wonders – though when we went back for a refill they couldn’t tell which kind it was exactly. Organic soaps were new to the market which probably explains why most of them were not branded. This made it really difficult to pick them apart.
My sister eventually relocated and just eight months later, I barely recognized her. She had glass-skin and her confidence had blossomed. Seeing her shine from the inside out was the moment I realized just how deeply skincare impacts appearance along with self-esteem.
My sister’s positive transformation after a long silent battle acne inspired me to take better care of my skin. I dove into the world of cleansers, rosehip oil (for that glow OF COURSE), tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar and aloe vera gel.
I didn’t even know why I was slathering aloe vera gel on my face at the time but hey – I started seeing results! I haven’t looked back since. If you’re embarking on a skincare journey, start with a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. You can click here for more advanced tips.
The change in my skin didn’t go unnoticed. Friends from university, strangers even, started stopping me daily asking about my skincare routine. What used to be a 10-minute walk across campus turned into a 30-minute Q&A session. I started running late to class because of sharing tips and product recommendations.
One day someone asked me where they could get the products – and without thinking – I offered to source them myself. Meremeta was born that day. I didn’t know how anything from would unfold. All I knew was my goal was simple: to help women, especially those like my sister, find easy access to skincare solutions that worked.
What started as importing and selling skincare products grew into something much deeper. I began exploring what more I could do. You can check out The Album Cover Challenge for the journey and see how I stumbled on my hand cream venture and consultancy here.
